The Handys: Christin, Mark, & Colleen
About us
In 1981, God called Rev. Mark Handy to found World Outreach Ministries, an interdenominational organization committed to spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the earth. In 1983, Mark and Colleen were married and began evangelistic ministry together in the United States and overseas. In 1985, they established World Outreach Bible School in Nigeria, Africa working together with a national pastor, Rev. William Okoye. Today, the school has flourished, equipping and sending hundreds of workers to the harvest fields and is a fully accredited degree program.
The focus of World Outreach Ministries is primarily to developing nations across the 10/40 window and in particular, the country of India. From 1981 to present, the Handys have made dozens of ministry trips to many countries preaching the Gospel and teaching the Word of God. They also served for several years in the pastorate of a church in New York City. In July 1994, they taught for one year in the missions department of Times Square Church, equipping lay people for short-term ministry overseas.
In October 1995, Mark and Colleen with their daughter Christin relocated for five years to the nation of India residing in Madras. Their ministry extended all over the nation preaching the Gospel to multitudes through open air crusades, ministering to thousands of pastors in special seminars, hosting church ministry teams from the U.S.A. and founding two Homes for destitute and needy children. For ten years, World Outreach Ministries has been involved in the task of rescuing needy children from sin, darkness, poverty, abuse, discrimination and illiteracy and raising them up as an army of missionaries to take the Gospel to the 1.2 billion people of India. The vision is to take in thousands of destitute children in India, raising them in a loving, Christian environment, introducing them to Jesus and training them as disciples of Christ full of God's Word. Also, to give each child a quality education, breaking the cycle of illiteracy and equipping them to take the Gospel all over India.
World Outreach Ministries presently cares for 323 girls at our House of Refuge Home for Girls (Orissa, India). In April 2004, all 14 boys at our Shekinah Home for Boys (Madras, India) reached adulthood and have graduated from the Home and are serving God. We gave up the rented home where we were housing the boys. The leading of God for now is to concentrate all of our efforts on expanding our work with the girls in Orissa. Since Orissa is one of the most impoverished states in India, since girls are at the bottom of society and are often discriminated against due to the dowry system of marriage, since 89% of the female population of Orissa is illiterate, since thousands of children die each day in the villages of India due to malnutrition or no medical care, and since the need is so great to raise up future missionaries to reach the 635,000 (of a total 700,000) unreached villages of India (thousands in Orissa) that have never heard the Gospel even once, we are concentrating our efforts now on the girls of Orissa.
We formed a Society in India with a 9 member board (7 Indians with Mark & Colleen) called Indian Outreach. This is the extension of World Outreach Ministries in the USA. The land and the beautiful 3 story House of Refuge Home for Girls has been completely paid for and is debt free. All the property is registered with the Indian government in the name of Indian Outreach. Each child is provided with a comfortable and safe home to live in, nourishing food, clothing and school uniforms, quality education (breaking the cycle of illiteracy) and medical attention. But best of all, a loving environment where the child is introduced to Jesus and given solid Christian training. These children are being prepared as part of God's end time army to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the millions of unreached people of India. The rescue and redemption of these children will be part of reaching multitudes of souls in India for Christ.
Mark and Colleen are graduates of Elim Bible Institute in Lima, New York. Mark continued his studies receiving a Masters Degree in Biblical Studies from International Theological Seminary in Bradenton, Florida. Mark and Colleen have been married for 24 years. They reside with their daughter Christin in Sugar Land, Texas where World Outreach Ministries is based. They continue to travel both overseas and throughout the United States teaching and preaching God's Word. They also encourage those who are willing to become involved in the World Outreach Ministries Child Sponsorship Program partnering together with them to redeem and transform children's lives for Christ.
